Welcome to my painting store, a project where each month whilst I'm studying for my MA in Fine Art, I’ll share 3-5 small works from my studio; new techniques, concepts and processes that I'm experimenting with that are informing my work. Each will be available for a short time, before they dissolve! They can be given or received by post, 'snowballs', as one collector termed his snowscene, a long-lasting change from flowers. All works are original, unique one-offs, signed, titled, dated, archival mounted where apt, and wrapped in navy/white tissue paper with black velvet ribbon. This project is so called because it began with 'sugarcube' paintings, artworks painted on tiny wooden panels and canvases that resembled sugarcubes, and paintings attached to the inside of cigarette boxes, self-termed 'handbag' art, initially designed for frictionless international travel to be exhibited in Toronto. Their tiny scale prompts an intimacy; you can hold the work in your hand, you need to view it up close, peer harder to see. The miniature works pair with my vast scale, immersive paintings, both offering glimpses of sensuous in-between worlds.
