My work explores heterotopic spaces and states, where normal rules don't apply - gardens, raves, hiking, wilderness, holidays, reading - collective effervescence - euphoria - connection - autonomy - transcendental immersion of losing oneself - parallel psychological zones where you proactively choose what to engage in.

My paintings enact literal, thematic and curatorial hide-and-seek games of perception, investigations into the medium of painting itself. Hidden figures/objects reveal themselves on their terms, often veiled by weather, foliage, sunglasses, cigarette hazes, reflections, shadows, or negotiated through close tones, material disruption or inverting traditional formal techniques, placement, cropping, spatial forms and hierarchies that often embrace metafiction, adding further unruly layers. The viewer must actively hunt through empathetic textures and imagery to solve and catch them, duelling with neuroscience and optical mechanics.

Poetic rhythms of nature heighten presence through centring negative space and powerful, calm silence. My work arm wrestles control over chaos, whilst creating chaos and resisting control.
